[News] One Of Our Readers Saved A Boston Terrier’s Life

Our friends at the MidAmerica Boston Terrier Rescue shared a story about horrible cruelty to a young Boston Terrier. Turns out, one of our readers went and saved this poor dog! The good news is that the little girl now has a loving home. Here’s the story straight from Cassondra:

“I dont know quite how this all happened but the stars all fell in line for one sweet little girl. I was on Kansas City Craigslist a few days ago and seen an ad for a female boston for $175. Knowing this was way cheap decided to contact the person and see if I could talk them into surrendering to rescue or maybe even offer any assistance, but my heart said no just act like you want her yourself. I then texted the number as text was preffered again a red flag and asked about the baby. She texted back and told me that she is $175 but her eye is hurt, not that it is not uncommon for a Boston to recieve an eye injury I inquired on for a picture. I recieved one of the most horrifying pictures I have ever seen. I knew I wanted to save her but hated the idea of giving a breeder any money for a dog that should be surrendered to rescue or vetted by the owner. I mulled this over in my head overnight. The next day I was on facebook and talked to a young girl I had just met whom was a vet tech. I explained everything and she said that the pup was probably hurting to give her the contact info. I did so and she contacted the owner and tried and tried for a surrender, which was a no go but did get her down in price. So I called my contact at Mabtr she told me tell her what you can do in cash and tell her you will pick the pup up. I then texted the owner myself and got her even lower in price to $125.00. I hate the fact but met the lady and bought the pup. I had no idea what I was gonna do so I called MABTR . Donna and Jennifer arranged for the pup to be vetted with the rescues vet. I took her in the day after I got her to find out this pup needed her eye removed as it was terribly infected. She had a worm belly and is under weight. The original owner told me a St bernard had snapped at the pup causing this, do I believe her? NO .Did she tell me when this happened? NO. How long was this this way? I have no idea but had to have been a while seeing how it was infected. The vet took care of her eye and send her home on antibiotics and pain meds. She will be given her first dose of heartguard and flea meds tomorrow as she is also covered in fleas. I have personally paid for her, all her vetting and all she needs, so please if anyone asks how they can help please have them make a donation to Mid America Boston Terrier Rescue, for without their help I couldnt have saved this one. She is a very sweet pup and loves anyone to just let her lay in their lap and pet her. Attached are a before pic when she was first picked up, a pic on the way to the vet , pictures while at the vet laying on the table cause she was so sick, and pictures after her fix up. Please we can not stress enough until people fight and be the voice for those that dont have one there will always be a need for rescue. Please contact your government local and state to have laws put on the books and enforced. Like I said the stars lined up perfect for this little girl, and I would do it again in a heartbeat. We have no name for her as of yet because she is gonna need a strong name to put her past behind her and one that shows how resilient and loved she is. I have filed a report of animal cruelty. She will be assigned an investigator and As soon as I know more will be more than happy to update. Thanks you for the concern.”

    • Carol thank you so much, but we did only what we felt was the right thing. Something that we wish others would do and that is to get her well and be her voice.
