When it comes to my life, literally almost everything happens for a reason. The way I ended up with Sophie, the way I met my wife, even the way I got my job, everything falls into place. Recently, my wife and I have been looking for the right dog for our house. Sophie just turned two and is the little princess of the house but we decided we wanted to get her a brother. We’ve emailed rescues, been to shelters, reached out to Sophie’s breeder all in an effort to find the right dog. Yesterday, fate took over and Baxter is now home! We received an email to our “Las Vegas Boston Terrier Meetup” Facebook page and I instantly knew we had our guy. Here’s some of the email: “I must admit defeat, only a week after having received my little guy. I am reaching out to this community because I know you’re all lovers and current owners of Boston Terriers already. I joined the group in anticipation of bringing my guy around and also making a few new friends at the same time. Now, a week after having received my pup, I have realized I made the wrong choice. I bought a dog for the wrong reasons. I bought a dog because I thought it would somehow make me happy, and because I liked the look of the breed.” He went on to say “I work the graveyard shift, and I have to split up my sleep between two sets of time, three hours before work, and three hours after work. It’s the only thing that works for me being on that shift. Essentially, since I work grave, I have to crate this little guy almost nonstop from 9pm – 11am, and then again from noon to 2:30pm while I get my after-work sleep. That’s over half the day. This is not the quality of life the dog deserves, and I have never fancied myself a dog torturer. Add on top of that my incredible sense of guilt for treating the dog in this manner and it has become very clear to me that I made the wrong decision to get him in the first place.”

The good news in this story is that he understood his home wasn’t right for the dog and he wanted to make sure he found the perfect home for the little guy. I immediately grabbed Sophie and my wife and I went to his house to tell him about the breed, how amazing the dog was and that we would love to give him a home. After a long talk and some playing with Sophie and the new dog, Baxter became part of the family. We are so happy that this man made sure this dog went to the right home and now I don’t plan on sleeping for a while. Expect tons of pictures and videos of Baxter and his big sister Sophie. Sophie, as expected, is incredibly freaked out and worked up over this. We expect that they’ll be the best of friends in a few days.

  1. Congradulations..what a beautiful dog. He is very lucky to have found you….I’m sure you will enjoy him. Don’t worry about Sophie, my older dog was seven when I got Jake and she did’nt know what to make of a puppy jumping all over her. She was afraid of him…Now five years later they are the best of friends.
